The Balearic Marine Cluster (BMC) is at the forefront of efforts to redefine the Mediterranean as a premier hub for the global superyacht industry. Building on its established reputation as a leader in the maritime sector, BMC has announced plans to expand its focus beyond the Balearic Islands, aiming to strengthen the Mediterranean's position in the face of evolving market demands and rising international competition.
The 2025 Balearic Superyacht Forum, held from 29-30 April in Palma de Mallorca alongside the Palma International Boat Show, will provide the ideal platform to discuss these ambitions. As the forum enters its second edition, it brings together key industry stakeholders to explore innovative strategies and collaborative solutions to future-proof the Mediterranean’s superyacht ecosystem.
Advancing the Mediterranean's superyacht infrastructure
A cornerstone of BMC's vision is to help create a robust investment in infrastructure, encompassing marinas, shipyards, and auxiliary services. With the region facing stiff competition from emerging markets and new cruising grounds, ensuring that Mediterranean facilities meet the needs of larger, more technologically advanced vessels is critical.
The forum will feature expert-led think tanks addressing pivotal topics such as marina upgrades and refit infrastructure. For instance, the session on investing in and upgrading marinas (29 April) will delve into how facilities can prepare for the next generation of superyachts, while the Investing in refit infrastructures and business models panel will examine the alignment of market approaches to meet increasing demand.
Promoting innovation, sustainability, and skills development
Innovation and sustainability are central to BMC’s mission. With 97 member companies representing over 1,200 employees and a combined turnover exceeding €400 million, BMC fosters collaboration among local businesses, technology centres, and startups to drive advancements in sustainable practices and technology adoption.
Workforce development is another key priority. Through targeted training programmes, the cluster seeks to elevate skill levels across the maritime sector, ensuring the region remains competitive in offering world-class services. Initiatives like the competitiveness index for refit companies further enable businesses to excel in this fast-evolving market.
Shaping the future of the superyacht industry
The Balearic Superyacht Forum will also serve as a think tank for broader industry concerns. Key sessions include discussions on The future of the super sailing yacht market and Mediterranean migration and charter activity (30 April), which will address the changing dynamics of the world’s most popular charter region.
By examining issues such as sustainability, regulatory changes, and the impact of emerging markets like the Red Sea, participants will gain insights into maintaining the Mediterranean's leadership while embracing innovation and adapting to new challenges.
The Balearic Superyacht Forum 2025 The forum will feature panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and the evolution of the nautical maintenance and repair industry in Palma and beyond. Attendees will explore challenges and opportunities facing the Balearic Islands as an international nautical tourism destination. Although the programme is due to evolve, here is the preliminary programme of the event;
